Deficit in the sleep-wake mechanism that originates from changes in the circadian rhythm is emerging as a novel feature of cognitive evaluation in identifying preclinical or incipient Alzheimer’s disease (AD). An atrophy pattern of the brain regions affected due to the sleep disorder could be used as a novel diagnostic feature to identify AD before any symptoms appear. Further, a polysomnography test using a similar feature could diagnose AD even earlier and cost-effectively.
